Getting Started With Bluehost And WordPress

by | Dec 19, 2020

Bluehost not only makes it easy to get started with WordPress but makes it affordable as well. There are a lot of options you may have when setting up a new hosting account with Bluehost so in this video, I go over what you need and what you may not need when getting started.

Understanding Hosting Types

All hosting platforms offer different hosting packages depending on your websites needs. Let’s take a look at some of the most common types of hosting platforms you’ll find.

  • Shared Hosting: Your website lives on a server that is shared by other websites. This is the most affordable and most common hosting used by website owners.
  • Dedicated Hosting: Your website has its own server where it lives completely on its own. This costs more but is also more secure and great for eCommerce websites and those with greater security issues.
  • VPS Hosting: VPS is also known as a Virtual Private Server most commonly used by larger corporations that have a lot of traffic, increased security needs and looking to customize their hosting platform.

How many websites do you need in your hosting package?

One of the options that can make a big difference in your hosting cost is the number of websites you’ll need on your host. Many folks get started with one website. If you’re making a website for your small business or yourself you may never need to host other websites.

If you’re building websites for friends, family, and such you may want to go ahead with the multiple website options. The same goes for when you decide to build websites for clients. It’s helpful to have that space available to test websites and or host someones else’s website on your hosting platform.

You should pay yearly for your website hosting.

Paying for your website hosting month to month adds up to unnecessary costs. If it is within your budget sign up for the annual plans to make you life easier and avoid any interruptions.

All you need is another payment to make every month. If life catches up to you and you forget to pay your hosting bill, you risk losing your website. I’ve seen it happen. Web hosting nowadays is affordable enough even to pay a few years in advance and the saving may be well worth it.

Bring a domain name or create a new one.

when setting up your web hosting you’re usually presented with the option to bring in a domain you already own from any domain register like go daddy or else where.

Every host handles this differently. Enter your domain that you own and would like to use and you’ll be guided along.

So many add on packages.

All hosting platforms Bluehost included off extra packages for you to add on. The only package I recommend is Domain Privacy Registration. This simply protects your domain ownership and only comes up if you chose to buy a new domain.

At this point in setting up your account, I recommend staying away from e extra security features, backup capabilities, and other offerings from web hosts. Many of these things you can set up on your own and if you follow my blog I’ll help you do just that.

Skip the assisted builder options.

Once you’re set up and your payment went through I suggest skipping the assisted builder options.

These helpers often bloat your website with unnecessary plugins, bloated themes, and end up costing you more for things you may not even be sure you need. Skip all the options and start from scratch.

You’re all set and have a host.

Now that you’re all set with your new host you can start a website and maybe even more in the future. Next is to learn all about you’re hosting settings. Get learning and have fun.
